Stay Tuned Sports Fans

An exciting last few nights in the hockey world no?

That Caps Canadiens Game - 1000

Even the LA - Canucks game got interesting.

And while that was going on, the Met Game went to 20 innings. Thank God they won because if they didn't....oh boy. That game just kept going. Bress and I were scrolling thru hockey and that game and everytime we turned on the Met game it seemed that they would lose and sure enough they avoided every possible scary situation. Even when Lopez came in for the Cardinals, yes the short-stop and we couldn't even touch him....I started losing a little confidence...well I never had it in the first place with the way the Mets have been playing but you know what I'm saying.

Anyway back to hockey and some thoughts.

Some of the old bearded boys of USA Hockey are hanging it up. Keith Tkachuk. I really loved that guy...don't completely understand why I did over the years...maybe it was some unconscious fantasy love I had for him...but I did really enjoy the Guerin, Modano, Tkachuk line in the olympics in Italy even though they didn't do much. Tkachuk always did the needful...excapt when he came to camp way over weight a few years back. He was just that type of cool player I always wanted to be. Strong, skilled and cool.

This goal when it went off his head and in...pretty much sums up his entire career.

And than there's Mikey Mo's story book ending to his last home game...I think it will be but I guess he could be back for one more. I'd leave on that note but regardless of the note...it's hard to hand up those tacks when it's all you know. Skating around in the Stars jerz up in Minnesota and the very last game of the season. Here's the Mo video if you missed his last home game. This isn't the 10 minute video I was looking for but it'll give you something up of the night.

This video will show Mikey scoring late in the game for the tie. Watch Steve Eminger please...as he advocates for a goal review as the Ducks nor the Stars were moving on into the playoffs...Mikey closes his career and Eminger instead of being honored to be on the ice for that...tries to stay full competition and idiot. Way to be Stevey.

I saw Doug Weight yesterday. The man still looks together even with a sling on him.

Crib Notes - Washington Capitals

Washington Capitals
Finished First in the Southeast. Lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs to Pittsburgh in 7 games
Acquired all-time quarterback Mike Knuble via free agency
Acquired Brendan Morrison via free agency
Let Donald Brashear, Victor Kozlov and Sergei Federov go as UFAs
Resigned Boyd Gordon, Shaone Morissonn, Jeff Shultz, Milan Jurcina and Chris Bourque.
Shaone Morissonn broke my spell check

Questions going into 2009-2010:
Who's the day 1 starter: Semyon Varlamov or Jose Theodore?
Can Ovy score 70?
Is there enough secondary scoring on this team?
If Ovk throws up 130 points will the Caps need secondary scoring?
Can Mike Green top last season's totals?
Will Chris Clark play a full season?
Who is the SABR mathmetician who signed Michael Nylander to a $5.5MM/year contract?
Do the Canes have enough to outpace the Capitals?
Or are the Caps a lock to win the division again?

Poised for a breakout season:
Nicklas Backstrom has already broke through but if all goes right for this team he will flirt with 100 points.

If you had to buy one Caps sweater:
Our buddy wears a white Brooks Laich because he claims Laich's game "speaks to him".

Player whose game you need to like:
I've posted about my love of Mike Knuble before.

Reason to get behind this team:
There may not be a ceiling to Ovechkin's game.

Reason to hate this team:
Green's website.
Either that pic is in the insert for the latest Crazy Town record or a photo from Mike

Random thought:
Fergie's body is sick but your buddies would still goof on you if you took her home.

Old guys:
Mike Knuble is 37
Michael Nylander is 36
Brendan Morrison is 34

Young guys:
Karl Alzner is 20
Backstrom is 21
Ovy and Mike Green are 23

Tough guys:
Brashear is gone so John Erskine will look to handle the thug load.

Favorite old school Capital:
Alan May or Mike Liut

Reason why I am writing this so late:
I have a men's league game tonight and I am going to the beach tomorrow and I don't want to break my streak of doing 30 teams in 30 (business) days.

Goaltending coach:
Arturs Irbe
Our Head Political Correspondent and Washington, DC Bureau Chief, confirmed that Irbe wears his goalie skates when going through drills in camp.

Nostalgia:
How hasn't this team retired Peter Bondra's uni yet?

Interesting?:
The last time we went down to a game in DC our buddy got thrown out for passing out while riding down an escalator on his back.

NHL 94 players:
Peter Bondra, Dimitri Khristich and Mike Ridley up front.
Al Iafrate and Kevin Hatcher on D with Don Beaupre in net.
Rod Langway was rated a 44. A bigger injustice this blogger knows not.

YouTube:
Bondra was just plain nasty. He sneaky dominated the 1990's

Sahner Oil

Vancouver Spartans stats - 30 games in (Video Game Hockey)

Brad McGann - 75 goals, 35 assists - 110 points
John Giardino - 58 goals, 52 assists - 110 points
Matt Weindel - 75 goals, 70 assists - 145 points
Nemy - 5 goals, 65 assists - 70 points
Scotty - 8 goals, 56 assists - 64 points

Heals (goalie) - 30 wins 0.99 save percentage with 7 shutouts

Things have gotten wildly out of control.

I'd like to say something about the Washington-NYR series. To be honest I would like nothing more than the Rangers to lose, as an avid Islander fan it becomes just a natural part of the game rivalry to hate the opposing New York team. In this situation, you can't be a Mets fan and still not mind the Yankees. Hatred for the other side. Good fan friendly hatred not literally fighting or drunken abuse over it though.

However if the Rangers win, I actually would not mind it so much because it just keeps the playoff NHL spirit around NYC. Guys in my office that really could give a left testicle about the sport are all about it right now. I went to dinner with my girl and some friends last night and bumped into Paul Lenti (our college/men's league goalie) at Penn Station in his blueshirt. The energy is high...the team is poopy but it works and I get it so I officially cover my Ranger short in praise of the spirit around me for at least another series. If they go to the conference finals I may get a little over it but for now its ok.

I still think no one has a chance against the wings in 7 games. But hey stranger things have happened. The Bruins and the Wings look sharp as they should. Getting rid of those first round match-ups the way they did was very very professional.

This guy is me today.
He is also sneaky the opposite of everything.

On a different note but following the same theme...maybe

Does anyone even understand this?
Is it the ghost of Christmas Past?

Do you guys really think the Ducks will beat the Sharks? I think Jumbo Joe inflates and they open this thing up.
