What you missed last night while you were watching the Twins win

For this season, Wednesday recaps will be known as Mid-week Monsters. I'll pick the best player from each game and tell you why.

Senators beat the Maple Leafs, 2-1: Alfie - he got the game winner with a nice move in during a penalty shot. He didn't draw it, but finished it nicely, with a move that froze the new bad Leafs goalie and then roofed the backhand.

Flyers win over the Capitals in OT, 6-5
: Capt. Mike - Richards had a 2nd period hat-trick. Enough said. His first goals was a bad angle snipe off a great slap-pass. The second was a little luck on a wrister and the third was him going hard to the net and roofing Varlemov's goof.

Flames beat the Canadiens, 4-3: Eric Nystrom - 2 goals and a fight. None of it was pretty, but it all looks the same on a scoresheet.

Oilers beat the Stars in the shoot-out, 5-4: This wasn't a pretty game. I guess I'll say Khabibulin, because he got the win.

Kings win over the Sharks, 6-4: Jack Johnson - His goal was special. Handzus gave me an awful waist high saucer pass and some how JJ batted it in. But when you're up 4-0 and give away the lead, its tough to give the MwM award to a d-man, but that goal was sneaky special.

Wild beat the Ducks in OT, 4-3: John Scott - How does Minnesota have another huge fighter besides Boogard. Anyway, Scott dominated his fight agains t2MA! favorite George Parros

Tuesday Value

Good value
Leslie Mann - Sneaky older broad. Doesn't have overpowering stuff but is still getting by with a Jamie Moyer fastball. She's married to that guy who makes all those movies. Doesn't have to be the knockout star in any film. Just fits that nice sneaky old chick niche. Some nice value.

Great Value
Here two RFAs signing in the last week. Both young defensemen with upside. Nice value on both with better relative value for Matty Hunwick.

Jack Johnson - LAK, 22 years old, $2.85MM/2 years
Matt Hunwick - BOS, 24 years old, $2.90MM/2 years

Locking guys in for 2 years on the cheap side right now and pushing off their breakout contracts is always solid.

No Value
(Tie) Doink the Clown and the 10-Day forecast for NYC.

Almost over this week's hump. Hang in there.

Monday

According to TSN the Minnesota Wild have signed veteran goaltender Wade Dubielewicz.

To say this guy is a fan favorite would be disrespectful to Dubie. I have cousins who go nuts when they describe his games in Bridgeport and Scotty and Bress can still hazily recall the Dubie pokecheck that sent the Isles into the playoffs.

Also some kid named Jack Johnson got re-signed by LA. Remember when he was going to be great?

That's all. The 2Man's weekend was so sick that Scotty's back gave out.

How is everyone?

Holiday Weekend Wrap Up OR Seriously, what the hell is a truffle?

So I fell asleep real early on Friday night. I was getting ready for a big day on Saturday. Luckily, I didn't miss much. Mostly low scoring games, no memorable highlights.....
Saturday had some outstandingness to it.
Who knew an Oilers/Kings game would have so much punch (pun intended):

I initially thought Jack Johnson was fighting Andrew Cogliano - his old college teammate.

Mike Green set a record with this goal:

Its not the prettiest of his, not even the prettiest of the streak, but they all count.

So Friday was bleh, Saturday had its spots, but Sunday was where the NHL Center Ice Package pays for itself. Unfortunately, you really needed it, because NBC switched from the Devils/Sharks (2 best teams in each conference who played a 6-5 thriller) to Flyers/Rangers (we get it, NY is a big market).

Ovechkin had a hat trick. My favorite was his first goal. A low wrist shot snipe from the point:

The replay angle is perfect!

So the Islanders played in a matinee yesterday. Okposo tried his sick shoot-out move again and failed. Its so good.

And the Rangers lost again. Who's getting fired?

I know I missed a lot...
